Canada’s Voting Public … and its Future
It has often been said that the voting public has the attention span of a flea. That is true but there are reasons why it happens. Working parents, young families raising children and time off (which does not include reading the news). People have better things to do than watch what our politicians are doing and yet we hear a great howl when they dig deeper into our pockets in search of our gold while we fail to pay attention.
And so we wonder as our pockets are picked as the years go on.
There is no wonder in my mind at all. It’s as simple as “ABC”.
The voter isn’t paying attention and because they aren’t they pay a huge price. Many are so lazy they won’t even get out to cast a vote and this is hugely due to the fact they refuse to admit they don’t know what is going on.
My view — if you don’t know — ask an old fart who does.
I have been following Harper for some three years now (maybe more). He was not yet elected as the leader of the Alliance but had written much and I liked what I read. I was also a follower of Preston Manning — not because he was a “preacher” — rather because I saw the wisdom of his ideas for this country.
My children are now long grown and gone and so I had the time to spend reading and watching.
And what I saw continues to energize me to this very day.
In my view Harper is the best thing that has happened to this country in a very long time and is reversing the course that Trudeau set us on some 40 years ago.
Does that make me conservative?
No.
It makes me Canadian with values passed on by my ancestors — values that built this country — values which are still true.
Values which I hold dear and have made this country a huge success.
Do I want to see people with values who flee from a world still in the seventh century take over my country and impose their religious views (and moral bankruptcy) on me?
Not likely.
They largely come here to escape their ancient predjudices and prosper.
And so they do.
Unfortunately, there are a few among them that think in the old way and they corrupt Canadian youth and our goals for the future. I think that is wrong and those who support such people should rethink their values and forbid their children from listening to such trash.
It only leads to bloodshed and futile attempts to turn back the clock.
